Soda is so bad for us and that's no secret. But soda is also bubbly, refreshing and sweet. Sometimes I just can't say "no". And when craving calls, I don't want to deprive myself. The problem is, 1 can of soda, for example coca cola, is 12 fl. oz and contains 140 calories. This is usually too much for someone who just wants a small taste to satisfy their craving.

Lately I have been treating myself with the new 1/2 can cokes. With only 100 calories in tow, it's just as sweet and just enough for me to not feel deprived.

Great satisfaction and only 100 calories? Yum!

MODEL FIRED FOR BEING TOO FAT

I believe the actual words used were "...her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us." But according to the model herself, she was professional, on time and has been loyal to the clothing giant who did the deed, Ralph Lauren.

After all, the beautiful, size 4, 23-year old stunner, Filippa Hamilton, has been with the company since she was 15. But since the sample sizes has been shrunk, Filippa can no longer fit her already thin figure in them. And therefore she was terminated.

I'm sure that if you saw Filippa on the street, you would categorize her as "tall and slender". So then why is she too fat for Ralph Lauren? Some blame it on the shrinking sample sizes by clothing companies. But then again, why are they shrinking? Is this the future we will all be facing? To shrink to the point that thin is considered fat?

Up on top of the Queen Anne Hill, at the popular corner where Boston crosses Queen Anne Avenue, is where all the coffee shops seem to collide. You can go with the norm and default to Starbucks or decide with something local like Cafe Ladro. Standing against these famous coffee places, The Teacup may look outnumbered by these coffee giants. But don't you worry! Some times it's nice to sit back and enjoy a cup of tea instead of the beverage that's more like Seattle's staple.

The Teacup has been around the Seattle area for 15 years, buts its Queen Anne location is new. It offers teas from all over the world, from oriental oolong to exotic mango, there is definitely no shortage of product. SWIMMING IN THE SHARK TANK

If you are sick of all the drama-ridden night time soaps on TV these days, ABC's got a fresh new show called The Shark Tank that will intrigue the brain and ripple up the otherwise repeating tides of your night time entertainment.

In the boardroom there are 5 sharks, in other words unbelievably successful business men and women with a lot of cash. Each week, a few contestants or entrepreneurs will present their business ideas to these sharks, hoping to spark up their interest enough to make an investment in their new business. In the end, the desirable situation is that the contestant gets the money their business needs, the shark or sharks owns a percentage of the profit - all is negotiable, of course!

So far there has been a number of really bad ideas, namely the man who wants to sell 3 socks instead of a pair. What the hell was he thinking? But then there are good ones too, like the women who created and patented a protective coat for baby cribs - genius!

GOING NUTS!!!!

Running on empty? Don't worry! You are not the only one! Especially around 3-4PM, my work day seems to drag and my tummy aches for calories. This is one of the most critical times during a work day that the human will is tested to go with my heart (candy! soda! chocolate!) or my brain (fruits! protein! good carbo!)

I admit that sometimes my heart wins. But keeping some nuts around the desk always helps make a positive decision. With an abundant amount of antioxidants and fiber, nuts provide a dense source of calories packed with nutrition.

If you must snack, snack on nuts! And surely not only will your hunger go away, but you will also gain enough energy to finish the work day.

THE CAST AMONG SOCIAL NETWORKS

I recently read an interesting article on CNN about the casting system among social networks: myspace user demographic consists of mostly blue-collared work force while facebook users are mostly white-collared. And of course, facebook users on average make more money. The article theorized some causes such as facebook's attention to privacy where as on myspace, privacy is in lack of.

But whatever the scientific reason, as an average user, I do prefer facebook's professional feel. And in myspace, it just seems a bit...messy.

If you don't know what color "Taupe" is, it's gray plus brown. In other words, "Taupe" is my two favorite earth tones in one.

For eye shadows I have experimented with many colors. From snow white to forest green, a blush of pink to a stroke of gold, you name it I tried it. As of late, I've been searching for a perfect shade for day - something subtle yet pretty. And the color "Taupe" satisfied both requests.

For first timers, you might not want to spend too much for something to play with. Cover Girl offers a single shadow in the color of "Tapestry Taupe". This shadow contains just a hint of shimmer for brightening, but still the color is very earthy and easy on the eye. For just over $3.00 at any drug store, it's an attractive price too.

Flannels are back! Or have they ever left?

Tuesday morning, a typical gray day in Seattle, I stepped off the bus just in time to see this tall Asian girl in the most fabulous fashion: A long, flowing blue and white flannel shirt over skinny jeans. To make this outfit even more fashionable, she wore a pair gold gladiator flats and a hobo-style messenger bag in cream.

She looked so good I could not stop watching her cross the street!!!!

Then I hit the stores downtown Seattle during lunch and guess what? Flannels were EVERYWHERE - American Eagle, H&M, Macy's...you name it!

No, I don't think flannels ever went away. But this season they are enhanced with better style both sexy and street.

If you believe the grunge era in the 90's was Seattle's heyday for flannel fashion, think again! The best of flannels have yet to hit the streets of Emerald City!

Vampires have been around for centuries, and it's about time they become glamorized from pasty bloodsuckers to cool but introverted heartthrobs. Thanks to popular stories like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight, now a days Vampires are the new "it", with their mythical appeal, hungry appetites and mysterious past.

True Blood is a new show by HBO that aired in 2008 - another intriguing Vampire tale that brought us a new crew full of good looks and surprisingly good acting. Among them is Stephen Moyer, or Vampire Bill Compton, who falls in love with Louisiana's prettiest virgin, Sookie (Anna Paquin).

I still remember seeing Vampire Bill walk through the doors at Merlotte's, the show's main bar. The character's impossibly sexy looks overshadowed his darkness and made me, among many other women I'm sure, drool and say "suck on me!"

True Blood's interesting story line made me dash to the video store, but Bill Compton by actor Stephen Moyer sure made the show exciting to watch. After all, looking "vampy" has always been the "it" thing.

It's hard to look hunky next to Josh Duhamel and harder to look tough next to killer transforming robots, but Shia Labeouf captured us girlie girls' attention like no other. And he even managed to look good pairing up with the very hot Megan Fox.

There is something incredibly charming about this fast-talking actor who shot into super stardom with the first Transformers movie. And in the sequel, Shia looks even better as a mature college freshman.

THE SOY GOODNESS OF EDAMAMES

Edamames are green, and they are mean - mean with the goodness of soy. Abundant in China, Japan and Korea, these little soybeans are quite popular in Asia as appetizer, dish or just a snack.

Here in the states, Edamames are served in almost any sushi restaurant. But you can also find packaged Edamames in your local grocery chain. (We got ours from Sam's, by the way.) You just pop them in the microwave for 3 minutes and spread some salt.

Instead of greasy chips and buttery popcorn, we had Edamames for snack during a movie. They were a much healthier choice, which I hope your will pick too.

OVER WINE IN BRICCO

While lower Queen Anne is a busy scene, upper Queen Anne is quite and quaint. You will often find older couples strolling hand in hand and young siblings run and dance. Still, up on top of the Queen Anne hill, there are quite a few places you can have fun at. They are just a lot more relaxed, but still yuppy.

Welcome to Bricco! It's a sexy, little wine bar that resides right on Queen Anne Ave, between cross streets of Galer and Garfield.

As you walk in, you will notice a wall full of wine on the right and the bar is on the left. In addition to an extensive wine menu, Bricco also serves a selection of mixed cocktails and the best espresso I have ever had.

All my girlfriends know that I LOVE a bubbly glass of Muscato. And the Muscato D'Asti I had at Bricco was nothing less than perfect! But then I was sent to heaven when I met panna cotta - thanks to my generous friend!

Around 9, Bricco dimmed the lights and brought out the candles. And in the sexy, flickering candle light, we finished our evening in this lovely winebar on top of the Queen Anne hill. And I am definitely going back!

GET ROCK HARD ABS WITH WEIGHTED INCLINE SIT UPS

Crushes, sit ups and even wierd yoga stances, they've all claimed to give you rock hard abs. Yes, they should work, but the best ab exercise I have tried are sit ups from the incline bench, holding weight in my arms.

All you do is hook your feet under the foot brace on the incline bench and lift your torso up. You don't have to start with any weights. If you are new, take it easy! Do only 15 - 20 reps for a total of 3 - 4 sets. It's a great, no-fail way to hit both your upper and lower abs.

SEAFOOD AND FUN AT RAY'S BOAT HOUSE

On Saturday the sun was high and the wind was breezy. It was a perfect summer day in Seattle - sunny, relaxed and absolutely beautiful!

The girls and I trekked out to the outer skirts of Ballard, where the calm waters of the Shilshole Bay glimmered under the sun. We had dinner on the deck of Ray's Boat House, one of the must go seafood restaurants in Seattle. And after we had seen the view from Ray's deck, we knew why it was a "must go" - the view of the sound, the beach and the mountains was breathtaking!

For a seafood place with a view, Ray's Boat House was not too expensive. I had Saturday's daily special, Alaskan salmon over a bed of buttery couscous, which was delicious and only costs $20.95. My friends also feasted on tasty food, like tender seared tuna over salad, fresh jumbo shrimp and curried scallops in their most supple forms.

Good food, good view, and good company. Saturday night at Ray's was a fun and cozy time, especially when the staff tossed out some fuzzy blankets just for the customers to enjoy an outside dining experience.

NIJO SUSHI

Finding good sushi in Seattle is like taking candy from a little kid - easy! But picking out a favorite sushi spot among so many can be quite difficult. Nope! After 2 years in Seattle, I still have not found an absolute favorite sushi spot. But Nijo (on Post Alley) is at the top of the list!

Not only does Nijo have a good selection of rolls, its atmosphere is comforting and the quality is really good. Plus, service, for the most part, is friendly and quick. And if the owners are present, the service is even better!

Since I work just a couple of blocks up the hill from Post Alley, Nijo is also a regular for my Happy Hour ventures. At the most, you will pay $5 for a Happy Hour item. Last night, my girl friends and I ate and drank like elephants for not more than $20 each - pretty cheap for a swanky sushi joint!

PORES? GONE!!!!

I know it's hard to believe, but I do like being an early thirty something better than being a twenty anything. Entering my thirties has been emotionally and mentally enlightening, because I've been around the block just long enough to get rid of quite a bit: Those skinny jeans I have kept out of vain hope? Gone! If I didn't fit in them on my twenty first birthday, I'll NEVER fit in them. And those self-absorbed, toxic friends? So gone! It's always been all about them, NEVER about me.

In my thirties, I am cleansed, refreshed and relieved.

My skin, however, does not do well as a thirty something. One problem I have noticed are enlarged pores, especially around and on top of my nose. Thank God for Marie Claire, in which I read about Clinique's pore minimizer perfector. It's a small tube of cream that you dab onto your face to make your skin smooth, matte and most of all, poreless.

BRAVING THE FRONTIER

With the busy scene in Belltown, a girl has to be brave to party there. And I must admit my skepticism about the Frontier Room (on First and Blanchard). Against all the fine dining in Belltown, the Frontier Room looked a bit less appealing.

However, my first time there last weekend totally changed my perspective. No, no one wore designer button ups or fancy dresses. Everyone there was just out to have a good time. Not only was the music fun, almost everybody was shaking it on the dance floor. Plus, unlike the snootier establishments, the Frontier Room's clients were much friendlier. I even had a real conversation with a stranger in the bath room!

Growing up in the Midwest, I was always the token Asian. Of course kids made fun of me for my slanted eyes, yellow skin and imperfect English. Many times I wished I was different. But in the end, I came to embrace my "Asian-ness". Because after all, the world is a colorful place.

Recently my Chinese friend got married in our hometown of Shanghai. Her wedding pictures were full of traditional Asian themes. Her and her American husband wore Chinese Qi Paos; The banquet was decorated with double happiness lanterns; and they toasted with plum wine instead of Champagne.

Many modern day marriages are multiracial. While we all love big churches and cream-colored dresses, a little touch here and there to represent the bride or the groom's racial background is just touching.

Not only does it show us that you are proud of and embrace your culture, it represents the beauty of different people coming together. Plus, all the happy colors from different cultures create the most dazzling pictures.

My friend is a true Southern Belle. She's got a petite pear-shaped figure and a Southern accent as sweet as the tea she makes. Even after years in Midwest, she still considers herself a Georgia Peach. Needless to say peaches are her favorite fruit.

But does she know that peaches are packed with Vitamin C, fiber, good carbohydrate, and other important antioxidants? They are one of the best summer fruits to keep the body strong and healthy. Plus, all that juicy sweetness makes it tasty too.

Today, Seattle was hot! Muggy, scorching, sweaty kind of hot. Luckily, a friend went to American Eagle during lunch with me to check out some cool fashion.

I've always enjoyed American Eagle's easy style that makes us girlie girls look good without breaking the bank.

Today, they had these cute little cotton summer dresses with great cut and sexy line. Don't worry! We were good. But since I'm obviously still thinking about them, I might have to make the purchase tomorrow. Good thing is, they are only $14.99.

With such cool fashion at American Eagle, it's easy to love the very hot summer.

Genies at the BLACK BOTTLE

3 inch pumps, short pencil minis, and springy floral dresses, all kinds of sexy fashion turned up at the uber trendy Black Bottle wine bar in Belltown. Though Black Bottle was small in space, the fashion there was grand!

My friends and I didn't need juicy gossip or ugly breakup stories to keep occupied. We were plenty entertained people-watching. Better yet, fashion-watching.

With summer's fast approach, it's great going out and seeing people dressed up. And Black Bottle is a great place to do just that. Plus, the Muscato they served was bubbly sweet!

At the top floor inside downtown Seattle's shopping mecca, The Pacific Place, there is a Thai restaurant called Thai Ginger that has surprisingly amazing food. I know that we are all skeptical when it comes to mall food. But trust me, Thai Ginger is very good!

After two years in Seattle, I have been to Thai Ginger close to a dozen times. Each time they never failed to impress me with delicious cuisines, like the lightly sweet Pad Thai, the creamy yellow curry, or the jasmine rice fried to steamy perfection.

Like any girlie girl in Seattle, I love shopping at the beautiful Pacific Place. And when hunger strikes after all the shopping, Thai Ginger is just the best choice for a foodie retreat!

M.A.C ATTACK

Liquids, powders, and even blocks, when it comes to foundation I have tried almost everything. I have paid a hefty price for the most exquisite lines, and I have dug through the Wal-Mart sales basket for cheapies. But only recently have I found my perfect match: STUDIO SCULPT SPF 15 FOUNDATION from M.A.C.

With a yellow undertone that works perfectly on Asian skin and a smooth finish to cover flaws and minimize pores, this foundation glides on like silk while providing excellent coverage.

There has been some hardships through finding the perfect foundation. But in the end, after meeting my match at M.A.C, it's worth the pain of all my trial and error experiences.

Like any other beauty gems, a good foundation is hard to find. And this one I am keeping around for a long time!

BALLARD'S BEST CURRY AT THE INDIA BISTRO

About two weeks ago, Seattle was seeing sun on a breezy Sunday morning. Hubby and I took this opportunity to trek around one of the city's most famous neighborhoods, Ballard. With a long history and a lot of recent build ups, Ballard is one of the most walkable spaces Seattle has to offer. After a couple of miles on Market Street, we just happened to take a chance at a lunch place called INDIA BISTRO.

It was too fancy to be a hole-in-the-wall, but small enough to provide intimacy. Aside from the atmosphere, we were plainly impressed by INDIA BISTRO's delicious food. The lunch buffet had quite a selection of curry, meat and veggies; The naan we received were fresh out of the oven; and the service was all smiles, all the time.

Plus, the chef often stepped out of the kitchen to greet with customers and check on the food. This means a lot.

I loved Ballard's chilled out feel and am looking forward to going back, especially after discovering a great curry place like INDIAN BISTRO.

Oh yeah, how can I forget the clown and the comic who stole our laughter.

Inside the Moulin Rouge of TEATRO ZIN ZANNI, guests were fed a fulfilling 4-course meal, where each course was served by song and dance. For 3 straight hours, you are never bored. And sometimes, you might have too much fun and even get pulled on stage.

BEEF! THAT'S WHAT'S FOR DINNER!

Having spent more than a decade in the Mid West, I just recently became acquainted to steak. Besides a healthy dose of iron, steak isn't too bad on the taste either! Two nights ago, an old college roommate came in town and we decided to give THE METROPOLITAN GRILL a try, especially after we heard that it serves the biggest and best steak in town.

Wow! Did they have big steak! All of our cuts were thick, juicy and decked with creamy mashed potatoes. Even my friend, who always ate me under the table, had trouble finishing his plate.

Be ready to spend money, 'cause THE METROPOLITAN GRILL is not cheap. But you know what? It's worth it!

Guilty as charged, I go to Sushi Kudasai at least once a week for lunch. One might reject food court sushi, but this place is absolutely, unmistakeably good. Not only are the chefs fast to act, the quality of their sushi is top grade, especially for a sushi hut in Century Square food court.

Their lunch special range from $9 to $12. I usually opt for the special rolls like "red dragon" or "cherry blossom". Oh yeah! Plus, the hot tea is free. You just have to grab it yourself.

ENTER THE RED DOOR

On Saturday, my friend and I had a birthday party together. We jump started the fun at the Red Door in Fremont. For a year now, I have been wanting to hang out in Fremont, especially after learning that this neighborhood is ultra liberal and hippy.

The Red Door started to get busy right around 10, but before that, even our party of about 20 was supplied sufficient seating. I had a plate of dungaree crab dip with pita and hubby had a delicious meal of salad and tuna sandwich. Everything was delicious. On top of that, the server was both beautiful and attentive, keeping my sweet mojito coming all night long.

After 10, all the young and hot people started pouring in. But still, the mood was very chill.

The Red Door was a great to hang out with friends as well as meet singles. For me, I liked its chill factor. When you are not pressured to dress up and show off, it's easier to be yourself and have a good time, and Red Door is just the place to do that!

Hidden on First Ave adjacent to Denny Way, in a mixed neighborhood between Belltown and Lower Queen Anne, there is my new Thai passion, Rice 'N Spice.

Just like how you'd never judge a book by its cover, please don't judge Rice 'N Spice by its walls. Its Thai specialties are out of this world! I had fried rice with real dungaree crabs - full of flavor! Then I topped the rice with avocado curry. Oh my gosh! It was creamy and mouth-watering. And another time I tried the pumpkin curry, which was sweet, curry and tasted like perfection.

I can't wait to go back to Rice 'N Spice to try another curry. Pad Thai? Yellow curry? Anything goes! As long as it's Rice 'N Spice, I know it'll be nice!

FONDUE FUN AT THE MELTING POT

For our 2-year anniversary hubby took me to the Melting Pot. We have heard many good things about this place, but last night was our first time. And guess what? Those good things we have heard were true!

First of all, the service was wonderful! After learning that it was our anniversary, we received complimentary champagne. Also, from the get go, I discovered the sweetest, tastiest Muscato wine. A very good start to a 4 course meal.

Speaking of, the first course consisted of dipping tender bread in creamy Wisconsin cheese. The second course was a plate of healthy greens. The third course was cooking a variety of meat in soup-based hot pot. And the last course, my favorite, was a pond of chocolate Tiramisu that hosted strawberries, bananas, pound cake and brownie bits.

On top of delicious food and good service, the Melting Pot's inviting atmosphere perfected our very special night! It was a wonderful place for any date night!

Miss Freida Pinto, starlet of Slumdog Millionaire, looked absolutely radiant in this jewel-colored one-shoulder dress. Although her fashion choice at the Oscars caused mixed reviewed, I'm so glad she chose this fun, flirty one-shouldered style that's sexy but also classy. Plus, the color is just gorgeous next to her perfect cream skin.

Some fashion looks good only on the runways. But this one-shoulder style survived real ways as well. Its asymmetric shape is both flattering and youthful. I hope the one-shoulder style is here to stay, at least for a while.

There was a chill in the air but I didn't care. Hubby and I bundled up for a night at the ballet. He wore a dress shirt and I put on my hottest boots. We both wanted to look extra nice for our special Valentine's date.

Among other well-dressed couples, we watched an elegant show where the dancers danced, twirled and glided gracefully across the stage.

Although hubby and I usually opt for dinner and a movie, it was great switching gears to experience something new yet still romantic. Plus, it was a beautiful show!
